Calton Hill

Calton Hill

Famous for its incredible views across the skyline of Edinburgh, Calton hill is a must for all fans of photography. Calton Hill is an accessible and easy walk, with the gradual slope only taking around five minutes to climb.

Once at the top, you will be treated to some of our cities famous monuments. These monuments contribute to Edinburghs nickname of ‘Athens of the North’. For example, the Greek Style National Monument, unfinished but nevertheless a stunning feature, or the Old Observatory House, which you can climb to the top of for a small fee. The hill is also a favourite for its pagan festivals and solstaces, for example, the Beltane Fire festival, whilst during The Edinburgh Festival and Hogmany, it’s a perfect view point to watch the fireworks.
